William B. Borden, M.D.

As a cardiologist and as an individual, I feel fortunate to live in a time period when we have so many effective tools to detect and treat cardiovascular disease. With new and exciting discoveries arriving every day, much of this new information is showing us that heart disease really can be prevented. For people who already have heart disease, we can control the disease to prevent problems down the road. All of this success involves a team effort between the patient and the physician and I find great satisfaction in working with patients to combine diet, exercise, and medications in maintaining a healthy heart.

Dr. Borden was born and raised near Chicago, IL, and received his undergraduate education at the University of Pennsylvania. He received his medical degree from the Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine before returning to Chicago for his internship and residency in Internal Medicine at the University of Chicago. Dr. Borden served as Chief Medical Resident and as an attending physician in Internal Medicine at the University of Chicago. During his residency and chief residency, he also earned an M.B.A. from the University of Chicago Graduate School of Business. Finally, Dr. Borden completed his fellowship training in Cardiovascular Diseases with an emphasis in Preventive Cardiology, and became board certified in Clinical Lipidology, before joining the Weill Cornell Medical College-New York Presbyterian Hospital as a full-time faculty member. In 2009, Dr. Borden was named the Nanette Laitman Clinical Scholar in Public Health (Prevention and Women’s Health).
