Walk, But Stay Safe: Tips for Pedestrians

Walking is a great way to get exercise, but it's important to follow certain safety rules to protect yourself from cars and other hazards, experts say.

On average, more than 460 pedestrians are treated in U.S. emergency departments every 24 hours for traffic-related injuries, and one pedestrian dies every two hours, according to the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. In 2010, more than 4,200 pedestrians were killed in traffic crashes and another 70,000 were injured. Read more
