Emmi: Learn about Your Cardiology Procedure Beforehand
The Division of Cardiovascular Pathophysiology provides evaluation and management services for patients with all forms of cardiovascular diseases and personally reviews data from objective testing performed in other locations. The largest segment of our efforts pertains to the pre-operative evaluation and inpatient and post-operative management of patients requiring cardiac surgery. For many years, the senior members of the Division have been particularly focused on research and patient care in the area of valvular heart diseases. In January 2000, together with the Department of Cardiothoracic Surgery, the Division established The Howard Gilman Institute for Valvular Heart Diseases. This is the first academic institute in the U.S. focused solely on diseases of the heart valves. Activities of the Institute include comprehensive patient evaluation and management, teaching, and research in a program integrating clinical and pre-clinical, cellular and molecular studies, to define and optimize strategies to reduce morbidity and mortality from these diseases.
