As the Assistant Director of the Gene Therapy Core Facility at Weill Cornell Dr. Stephen Kaminsky contributes expertise in vaccine design and development, gene therapy discovery, GMP manufacture, facility design and lab management. As Dir. of Protein and Analytical Chem. at United Biomedical, Inc., Dr. Kaminsky designed and developed several prophylactic and therapeutic HIV vaccines as well as a prostate cancer therapeutic vaccine, each of which went to clinical trial. As Director of Protein and Analytical Chemistry at the International AIDS Vaccine Initiative, he designed and managed the buildout of the 36,000 sq ft research facility as well as directed an Immunogen Design Program that has developed several immunogens against HIV with neutralizing capacity and identified two new highly potent broadly neutralizing antibodies against HIV. At Cornell, Dr. Kaminsky participated in the design of the Gene Therapy Core Facility, created the GMP production laboratory and established all of the underlying process and controls and is a member of the project team that developed a gene therapy for Batten disease from idea through the clinical trial. Dr. Kaminsky has authorship for numerous FDA regulatory submissions for diagnostics, vaccines and therapeutics; he has participated on NIH grant review panels for HIV vaccine program projects and co-chaired an FDA panel on peptide-based vaccines products.
