Personal Statement

Joseph T. Cooke, MD is an Associate Professor of Clinical Medicine and Public Health at the Weill Cornell Medical Center.  He serves as the Chief Patient Safety Officer for the New York Presbyterian Hospital Weill Cornell Medical Center. He is the current Chief of Pulmonary and Critical Care Medicne at NY Presbyterian - Weill Cornell Medical Center. Outside of the University he is the former  co-Chair of the Critical Care Leadership Network of GNYHA, and he continues  on the Medical Advisory Board for the New York Organ Donation Network. Dr. Cooke is board certified in internal medicine, pulmonary disease, and critical care medicine, and a fellow of the American College of Chest Physicians. His clinical interests include care and diagnosis of patients with COPD, Asthma, and Lung Cancer. He is an expert in the management of critical illness, including respiratory failure, sepsis, and multi-organ failure In addition to the teaching awards he has received, Dr. Cooke has been listed annually in the Castle and Connelly guide to the Best Physicians in the NY Metro Area since 2002.  In 2008, he was recognized  as a Regional Leader in promoting organ donation  by the Center for Medicare and Medicaid Services NYP-WCMC. He also served on the Institute of Medicine sub -committee on organ donation after cardiac death.

He works  closely with  NYP, WCMC, and the Physician Organization on matters of  Quality and Patient Safety and improving the safe delivery of medical care at our Medical Center
