Akhilesh K. Sista, M.D. is a board-certified radiologist specializing in Interventional Radiology. He is an Assistant Professor of Radiology at Weill Cornell Medical College and Assistant Attending Radiologist at NewYork-Presbyterian Hospital-Weill Cornell Campus.
Dr. Sista is a graduate of Stanford University, earning his B.S. in Chemistry in 1999. Dr. Sista earned his M.D. degree from The Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine, Baltimore, Maryland in 2004 and was inducted into the Alpha Omega Alpha (AOA) medical honor society upon graduation.
After an internship in internal medicine at Stanford University Medical Center, Palo Alto, Ca., Dr. Sista received residency training (2005-2009) in Diagnostic Radiology at the University of California at San Francisco (UCSF) Medical Center. Dr. Sista returned to Stanford Medical Center to complete his fellowship training in Interventional Radiology at Stanford.
His areas of clinical expertise are interventional oncology and deep venous interventions. In particular, he performs minimally invasive procedures that 1) remove acute clots in the deep venous system and 2) open chronically occluded veins that cause pain and swelling. He also has extensive experience with transarterial techniques to treat primary and metastatic cancer.
