Dr. Rubin's main interests lie in the field of diseases of nerve and muscle, nerve injury, spinal injury, and nerve entrapment. He is director of the Neuromuscular Service at Weill Cornell Medical Center, and director of the Electromyography Laboratory at New York Presbyterian Hospital. Dr. Rubin's research encompasses clinical drug trials, primarily for diabetic and HIV neuropathy. Dr. Rubin teaches at Weill Cornell Medical College and co-directs the Third-year Neurology Clerkship, which is mandatory for all medical students. In March 2007, he co-authored a neuroanatomy textbook, Netter's Concise Neuroanatomy, published by Saunders and translated into Spanish in 2008, which is being used worldwide in the teaching of medical and allied sciences.
Michael Rubin, M.D., Director of Electromyography and the Neuromuscular Service, received his medical degree from McGill University in Montreal, and did his internship and an additional year of internal medicine at McGill. He completed his residency in neurology at the Montreal Neurological Institute, and a fellowship in clinical neurophysiology and electromyography at Columbia-Presbyterian Medical Center, New York. He is certified by The American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology, the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada, the Quebec College of Physicians, and the American Association of Neuromuscular and Electrodiagnostic Medicine. His major subspecialty interests are neuromuscular disease and EMG, and he conducts clinical trials in diabetic and HIV neuropathy. He was awarded the 1994 Charles H. Best Medal for Distinguished Service by the American Diabetes Association for his involvement in the Diabetes Control and Complication Trial, which was published in the New England Journal of Medicine in 1993. He has received several teaching awards from medical students and neurology residents and, in 2002, he was awarded the Teacher Recognition Certificate of the AB Baker Section on Education from the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology, given to nationally recognized neurologic educators. In 2007, he co-authored a textbook on neuroanatomy which has been translated into Spanish and is used internationally. Dr. Rubin is fluent in English and French, and conversant in Hebrew and Yiddish.
