Personal Statement

Dr. Lief is honored to be part of the Division of Pulmonary and Critical Care Medicine here at Weill Cornell. She chose this specialty, and particularly the care of admitted patients to the Medical Intensive Care Unit which are cared for by our Pulmonary Consult Service, because it requires care of the whole patient. She often encounters patients and their families during episodes of critical illness and sometimes at the end of life. It is during these crucial moments that she uses the most advanced technology, up-to-date literature and her understanding of hemodynamics, physiology and the natural history of disease to care for her patients. She prided herself in supporting not only her patients, but also their families through these difficult experiences.

As a complement to caring for patients, Dr. Lief is devoted to educating the next generation of medical professionals. She works with our Division of Education towards this mission, specifically in expanding and operationalizing our simulation curriculum for the medical housestaff.

Biographical Info

Dr. Lief founded and directs the Weill Cornell Post-ICU Recovery Clinic.  Her clinical time is devoted to caring for critically ill patients and their families, both during their ICU stays and after discharge from the hospital. Her research focuses in identifying and treating unrecognized symptoms in critically ill patients; and in improving outcomes for both ICU patients and their families, as well as the staff providing their care.
