Kathryn Ko, MD completed her entire education in the public school system. She graduated with a BA in Zoology followed by an M.D. from the University of Hawaii School of Medicine. Dr. Ko was trained in Neurosurgery at Mt. Sinai Medical Center and finished a Cerebrovascular Fellowship at the University of Washington.
Dr. Ko has devoted much of her career to working in some of the most underserved, underprivileged and violent areas of New York. Dr. Ko has extensive experience in treating critically injured brain and spinal trauma patients having worked at 9 Level One Trauma Centers, 3 of which she served as Neurosurgery Chief.
Dr. Ko has published basic science papers on Cerebrovascular physiology and was the first recipient of the Galbraith Award from the American Association of Neurological Surgeons for this work. Dr. Ko has also investigated the use of the pulsed ruby laser for medical holography. Examples of her work are on permanent display at the Museum of Natural History, Liberty Science Center and the National Institutes of Health.
Dr. Ko is the author of the book "The Survival Bible for Women in Medicine" with the second edition to be published in 2005 by Cambridge University Press.
