Dr. Katherine Ann Halmi established the Cornell Eating Disorder Program 22 years ago. She is well-recognized nationally and internationally for her expertise in treating eating disorders. Throughout her career, Dr. Halmi has received federal grants and foundation support for treatment, genetic, neuroendocrine and outcome research in the field of eating disorders. Katherine A. Halmi, MD completed Pediatric, Psychiatry,and Child Psychiatry residencies at the University of Iowa,Iowa City,Iowa. After 7 years on the University of Iowa's medical college faculty, she came to the Westchester Division of the New York Presbyterian Hospital and established an Eating Disorders Program which includes an inpatient unit, outpatient program and partial hospitalization program. Dr. Halmi is a tenured Professor of Psychiatry at the Weill Medical College. Her private practice is restricted to consultations and treatment of Eating Disorder patients. Dr. Halmi is currently conducting federally funded research on the genetics of eating disorders and conducting a treatment study comparing the efficacy of two types of family therapy for the treatment of adolescent anorexia nervosa. Dr. Halmi has over 200 publications and has edited 3 books on eating disorders.
