Eleni Tousimis, M.D.

Eleni Tousimis, M.D., is a highly skilled, board-certified breast surgeon, who provides the highest quality, compassionate patient care. She specializes in state-of-the art minimally-invasive treatment options for breast cancer patients. Dr. Tousimis is an associate attending breast surgeon at NewYork-Presbyterian/Weill Cornell Medical Center, and an associate professor of clinical surgery at Weill Cornell Medical College.

A renowned clinician, researcher and teacher, Dr. Tousimis is trained in the latest technological advances in the treatment of breast disease, specializing in minimally invasive procedures. She is currently the section editor of the Aesthetic Plastic Surgery Journal. Consistently seeking new initiatives and targets in breast cancer management, Dr. Tousimis received the City of New York Achievement Award in 2009, and has been listed in Best Doctors in America since 2009, America's Top Surgeons since 2010, Patient Choice Award 2011, and Super Doctors 2012. She is on the Tumor Board for NewYork-Presbyterian Hospital as well as the New York Metropolitan Breast Cancer Group. She is co-investigator of several multi-institutional projects, and has published in many peer-reviewed journals. Her publication in the Journal of the American College of Surgeons in 2003 is considered a seminal article on sentinel node biopsy in women with multicentric invasive breast cancer.

Dr. Tousimis is a member of many professional societies, holding leadership positions in several. She is a frequent invited guest speaker at regional conferences, and was elected to the Board of Directors for the American Medical Women's Association in 2011 and treasurer of the New York Metropolitan Breast Cancer Group. She is a member of the American Society of Breast Surgeons, American College of Surgeons, the Society of Surgical Oncology, the Hellenic Medical Society of New York, the Association of Women Surgeons, and the New York Physician's Scientific Society. She has made many medical guest appearances regarding both male and female breast cancer issues on local and national television news programs.

She also plays a strong leadership role in resident training, serving as associate program director for surgical education and director of the mentorship program for junior surgery residents since 2005. In recognition of her dedication to educating the next generation of surgeons, she received the Award for Teaching Excellence from Weill Cornell Medical College.




Dr. Tousimis received her B.S. degree in Biology cum laude from Mount Holyoke College, Massachusetts in 1991, attended Dartmouth College from 1989-1990, and received her M.D. degree from Albany Medical College, Albany, New York in 1996. She completed her general surgery residency training at the Guthrie Clinic, Sayre, Pennsylvania in 2001, a fellowship in Breast Surgical Oncology at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center from 2001 to 2002, and an International Fellowship in Breast Surgical Oncology at the European Institute of Oncology in Milan, Italy from 2002 to 2003.
