Dr. Skerrett serves as Director of Transfusion Medicine and Cellular Therapy Service and Director, Blood Bank and Stem Cell Processing Laboratories at the Weill-Cornell Medical Center.
Dr. Skerrett received her M.D. from Temple University School of Medicine in 1984, completed three years of Internal Medicine residency at Baylor College of Medicine in 1987, completed Fellowships in Transfusion Medicine and Blood Banking and in Hematology at Mount Sinai Medical Center in 1989. She is certified in Internal Medicine and also Hematology by the American Board of Internal Medicine and in Blood Banking and Transfusion Medicine by the American Board of Pathology.
Dr. SkerrettÂ’s research interest is adult-derived, progenitor cell therapy for nonhomologous (or non-hematopoietic) functions in blood vessel and tissue regeneration. Dr. Skerrett investigates the differentiation of stem cells into various tissues. She also devises methods for clinically successful human progenitor cell procurement, manipulation, storage, and delivery.
